I started going to hear music at the Jazz Showcase when I was around sixteen years old, a young guitarist at that point from the suburbs. Little did I know that I would be on stage at a future incarnation of the club, playing bass with Sonny Stitt, along with Chicago legends Willie Pickens and the late great Wilbur Campbell. I must say that, while I had left school and then went back later to get my bachelors and masters degrees, working for Joe all those years was my schooling.
